splice

Alternative splicing is the process by which pre-RNA can be altered following transcription, generating different mature mRNA molecules and thus, various proteins. Although traditional views held that a single gene could generate only one protein, present alternative splicing research has demonstrated otherwise. Recent data suggests this occurs with nearly every gene. The splice products are not randomly synthesized (it is a process of great precision) supporting the idea that splicing is an important mechanism for modulating gene function. While alternative splicing has been widely studied in human genes, only a fraction of the estimated total number of splicing events have been identified, characterized, and catalogued for public record. The implications of alternative splicing events are pertinent to a range of genetically-linked diseases, such as Frasier and Down syndromes, establishing the need for more comprehensive answers.

The Agilent SpliceArray solution offers the opportunity to gain greater insight into splice events though the use of transcriptome-specific arrays. With content designed by ExonHit Therapeutics, the world's leader in alternative RNA splicing analysis, researchers can be confident in their results. All SpliceArray customers receive a proprietary analysis tool for array results visualization and analysis as well as supplemental annotation detailing the splice events captured on the array.

Agilent offers a comprehensive SpliceArray solution, with integrated components for sample preparation, microarray processing and scanning, and data analysis, for seamless experimental execution.
